Gordon McKay's HIGH VOLTAGE TEAM

Thank you for your support!
At the recent Relay for Life event held in Geelong, our company team was extremely honoured and fortunate to receive the highest and most prestigious award presented, being the ‘Spirit of Relay’ Award.
This award has only been awarded to individuals in the past for their dedication, commitment and contribution to the Relay for Life event in support of the Cancer Council of Victoria.
Our company/team received this award for our contribution to the relay in Geelong over the past 6 years. An enormous thank you must go to Mary Harvey who has been the driving force behind our involvement over this period. Mary attends all the organizing committee meetings as the team captain, looks after the fund raising and co-ordinates the weekend with the support of others and spends most of the weekend at the event.
I would also like to acknowledge all the other people who have supported the event over the last 6 years.
On receiving the award, the chairperson of the committee made special mention of Gary Clarke. For the employees who are unaware, Gary worked for Gordon McKay Pty Ltd for many years until he tragically passed away from cancer leaving behind a wife and 2 young daughters. The year before Gary passed away he installed the field lighting at Deakin University where the Relay is currently held, and assisted in setting up the temporary power and align the lights on the towers. Since then Gordon McKay Pty Ltd has supplied the temporary power each year as well as having electricians on call during the event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has carried out this work over the years.
Over the 6 years we have been involved in the relay the High Voltage team has raised $29,221.80 for the fight against cancer. This money is raised through donations from other companies, a fishing competition named after Gary Clarke, raffles, chocolates etc.
There is a registration fee of $15 per participant which covers insurance and supply of a Relay for Life jumper. The company has always paid this fee on behalf of those participating including family and friends of direct employees.
Relay For Life is a lot more that fund raising. It is a fantastic opportunity for colleagues, family and friends to get together with a local community to celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost and fight back against the disease.
To all the colleagues, family and friends who have walked and participated during the past 6 years, thank you for your support and I’m sure we have all taken away some wonderful times and memories of our participation.
Next year the Relay for Life is on March 19th and 20th at Deakin University again and I encourage you all to put aside a small amount of time to participate in this very rewarding event.
Gavin McKay.
