Cattle Hill Wind Farm
Frontline Electrical, a subsidiary of Gordon McKay was engaged to undertake the electrical and mechanical installation and commissioning of 22 GW140/3MW wind turbines at the Goldwind Australia Cattle Hill Project, Tasmania.
The scope of work also included:
- Automatic fire protection system, general lighting and power systems for a 100 metre, 5 section tower. This involved dropping and joining of 24 x 400mm aluminium conductors at each section of the tower along with 2,000 cable joints and 24x 240mm copper conductors.
- Master and slave converter terminations, cabling and connections to the 690V AC master to the motor control centre, converter braking resistors, ambient and dehumidifying fans, exit and egress lighting and generator change over box
The total installation took 20,000 man hours to complete and utilised 30 technician on site.
Due to the remoteness of the site and the short time frame for completion, workers performed a 13-day, accommodation on-site roster to ensure the project was completed on time. Safety and Fatigue Management was a major consideration, and this project was completed with zero LTI, MTIs for the total duration on site.
Frontline Electrical were awarded “National Contractor of the Week” by Goldwind Australia, for eight consecutive weeks, out of all Goldwind’s contractors nationally, due to “their outstanding performance in regard to safety, productivity and performance on site”.
Once commissioning was completed, Goldwind engaged Frontline Electrical to undertake the planned electrical and mechanical maintenance program.
