Boral Cement
The Boral Geelong Clinker Grinding Facility, situated in North Shore Geelong, is a crucial component of Boral’s cement production, boasting a processing capacity of up to 1.3 million tonnes annually.
Its electrical installation is fundamental to its operations. Designed for continuous operation, the electrical infrastructure supports a 24-hour, 50-week-per-year schedule, ensuring consistent cement production.
Gordon McKay’s scope of work included:
- Installing five high-voltage (HV) transformers, along with their switchgear, metering, and dedicated switch rooms. It also included the complete low-voltage distribution network, powering motors, conveyors, cooling systems, silos, and all facility lighting
- Installing a comprehensive lighting system to enable 24-hour facility operation while preventing light spill onto surrounding properties. It also included all cable routing and installation, encompassing cable ladders and conduit
- Installing a communications system, including all cabling and equipment installed via underground conduits, cable ladders, and conduits, now supports the plant’s advanced PLCs and SCADA automation, vital for performance and efficiency
- The complete wiring and connection of the dust suppression and noise reduction systems within the plant
- Commissioning
- Development of ITPs and quality assurance frameworks
Gordon McKay was successful in the installation and commissioning of electrical and control equipment ensuring Boral could increase their cement production.
