Installation of track lighting upgrade – Tabcorp Park Melton
In 2022, Tabcorp Park Melton underwent a significant lighting upgrade to meet the specific lighting requirements for harness racing events and accommodate televised broadcasts while minimising obtrusive light and enhancing energy efficiency.
Gordon McKay was tasked with the comprehensive replacement of existing track lighting and control systems at Tabcorp Park, Melton. This significant lighting retrofit encompassed the installation of 276 LED floodlights across 25 existing poles (ranging from 18-25m) and a new finish line roof gantry. The upgrade facilitated a transition from an outdated High-Intensity Discharge (HID) system to energy-efficient Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, specifically engineered to satisfy the rigorous demands of televised harness racing.
This transition not only improved the quality of illumination for racing events but also reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 40% and is projected to save near $1 million in electricity costs over 15 years.
